The edge house

After living in their 1920s Californian bungalow, the owners realised it was charming but no longer worked for a family of four. With limited renovation options, they opted to start fresh. The new home respects the scale and character of the neighbourhood without copying it. A compact corner site inspired clever planning along the edges of the site: four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a single living space, and a pool all fit seamlessly.

Living areas step down with the site, opening naturally onto the pool, which sits at the heart of the home. The kitchen and dining spill onto a small verandah, while the living room enjoys a sunny window seat overlooking the water. Sustainable materials and subtle nods to the old bungalow — recycled bricks, timber cladding, and exposed rafters — keep the home connected to its history, while cross-ventilation and north-facing living areas make it perfectly suited to capture summer breezes and winter sun.
